These photos from 2022 are incredibly special to me, as they are of my husband and I at the Swan House in Atlanta, GA, on my birthday weekend just 2 days after we found out we were pregnant with our son! I’d already rented the incredible Contax 645 film camera to play around with for my birthday, so when we found out we were expecting a child I knew we had to do something really special with it.

My husband and I experienced an early pregnancy loss the month before this, and we were anxious and quite unsure how to move forward. But, we set up the tripod and took these photos anyway. We did our best to let the joy & fear coexist, and I was so privileged to carry my babe to a healthy birth. The onesie we held in our pictures even ended up being what we brought our son home from the hospital in (see last photo)! I think about how much of a miracle it is every day! Motherhood is the wildest, most beautiful, and sometimes painful journey. But it is unlike any other and I wish to honor every mom I photograph, wherever she’s at 🤍

As Mother’s Day approaches, I wanted to share a little bit of where my heart is at for ALL mothers. I specifically use the wording “motherhood in all its forms” on my website instead of just the word “maternity” to describe the moms I photograph. Pregnant mamas, moms of loss, moms of many, moms to babies they have fostered or adopted, single moms, family members who have raised babies like their very own. There are many ways to be a mother. Mother’s Day can be a hard day, so to those mamas in pain or in waiting out there, I see you & I am passionate for you. 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
